2010 Graduation Information
How Does Our Graduation System Work?
All SSVS teachers will be invited to submit CDs of their students approximately six months before the graduation concert date. The CDs will be assessed by all level 5 teachers who have students taking part and who are interested in undertaking this work.
Each graduation piece represents a significant milestone in the development of a child’s musical and technical ability. By working to produce an excellent recording of the set piece, children develop the ability to listen critically to their own playing, develop concentration and discipline through repetition and re-recordings and take pride in the results on their final recording. They participate actively in deciding on how they feel their performance sounds and have concrete and tangible goals for their practice and review. Every student will receive from the sub-committee a written assessment based on agreed guidelines. Students will pay a registration fee to graduate: this will cover the costs of auditing and producing the authentic Suzuki graduation certificates. The Sacramento Suzuki Violin Studio has established the following guidelines for graduation:
1) Students must be studying with current SSVS teachers.
2) The student should be currently studying more advanced repertoire than the level of graduation. For example, a student graduating from Book 1 should be at least midway in Book 2 at the time of application.
3) There is a graduation level for each book of the Suzuki repertoire. The student must have completed and memorized all the pieces in a book in order to graduate from that book.
